Advantages of the new, bad FISA amendments

Like many, I'm not thrilled with the anti-civil libertarian trends over the past 6 years.  More bluntly, with the erosion of constitutional rights and increase in authoritarianism under a silly "unitary executive" theory.

And, like many, I'm not thrilled with the fact that this administration has, by all appareances, gotten away with systemic violations of the law, particularly including FISA, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.  In essence, under FISA, if the communications of a "U.S. Person", as defined in FISA, were to be surveilled, a warrant was required.  Such a warrant could be obtained retroactively, and through a specialized court, which historically has denied some very small number of warrants.

Recent changes to FISA, while disappointing, have an interesting upside.
